The Secret to Discipline is Having Fun
The only secret to being disciplined is to have fun.
This is a lesson that took me years to understand and will take many more to master.
Years ago, I remember my old sensei teaching us discipline. He was a rough guy, very strongly willed but kind.
He had white hair and a short but strong posture.
"Fun, you have to have fun. Without it, it's meaningless," he used to say when we asked how he managed to train for more than 40 years and wake up at 5 AM every day.
I was merely a child back then, but now I'm beginning to understand him.
Sometimes people get stuck in their old patterns, same responses and inputs. If you keep experiencing the same things, your mind grows numb to them. Little by little, we lose focus and begin to slowly feel trapped.
We can force it as much as possible, but excuses will appear.
You need to enjoy to persevere, not persevere to enjoy.
The trick is to have fun.
